Mavero: Behind the Scenes of a Bold Gelato Brand
NEWS – Jan 24 2026 -MIKE

Gelato is joy in a cup. It’s the taste of a summer walk through an Italian piazza, the hum of conversation, the clink of silver spoons against porcelain bowls. Mavero wanted to bottle that feeling and sell it to the world. They didn’t just need a logo. They needed a voice.

As the creative director at MIKEADV, I don’t do half-measures. This is the unfiltered story of how we built Mavero’s identity from scratch.
The brief: make ice cream feel fierce
When Mavero came to us, the brief sounded simple:
“Create a contemporary, memorable gelato brand that feels warm and authentic.”
In reality, that is a tight creative constraint. “Modern” can become cold. “Authentic” can become dated. And in frozen desserts, packaging can’t whisper. It has to speak in seconds.
If Mavero wanted to win attention in a freezer aisle full of noise, we needed contrast, a strong system, and a mark that felt instantly ownable.
Step 1: Create an emblem with character
Great logos can be drawn on a napkin. They’re simple, iconic, and flexible.
For Mavero, we designed a monogram that reads as an “M” built from two swirling scoops, topped with a single dot. It’s playful without being childish. Modern without feeling sterile. We stripped away anything decorative that would limit where the mark could live.
This emblem needed to work everywhere:
A gelato tub lid
A storefront sign
A delivery van
A tiny Instagram profile circle
If it fails in one of those environments, it’s not a logo. It’s an illustration.
Colour palette with personality
We anchored the brand in a deep navy for confidence and credibility, then paired it with vibrant turquoise for energy and warm cream/yellow for approachability.
The goal was a balance:
Cool enough to feel “frozen”
Warm enough to feel “Italian hospitality”
Bold enough to feel premium and modern
The palette was designed to create instant shelf recognition, and to allow flavor differentiation without turning the system into chaos.
Step 2: Build a system, not a sticker
A logo alone won’t carry a brand. Mavero needed a visual system that could flex across packaging, digital, and real-world touchpoints without losing consistency.
Here’s the structure we built:
Typography
Clean sans-serif typography for legibility at small sizes, with strong hierarchy so the product name reads fast.Illustration style
Minimal line drawings of cones, cups, pops, and simple motifs that add personality without clutter.Packaging templates
Repeatable layouts across tubs, bars, cones, and retail materials, built so new flavours could roll out without redesigning the entire brand every time.Collateral rules
Business cards, signage, delivery applications, and social templates all follow the same logic: emblem prominence, controlled spacing, and consistent type hierarchy.
Consistency is what makes a brand feel real. Randomness makes it feel temporary.
Step 3: Tell a story on every panel
Packaging is a miniature billboard. People decide in seconds.
So we engineered the front panel to do one job: stop the customer.
The emblem takes center stage.
A vertical colour bar signals flavour quickly.
The hierarchy is clear: brand first, flavour second, details last.
On the back panel, we kept the narrative short and confident: what Mavero stands for, what makes it special, and how it connects to the brand world beyond the tub.
Raw process: sketches, experiments, and happy accidents
Design is not a straight line.
We started with rough pencil sketches exploring dozens of ways to make an “M” feel like gelato. Some concepts looked like mountains. Others looked like moustaches. We tested everything:
On white and on color fields
In one color and full color
At tiny sizes and large formats
In print mockups, not just on screens
Then we experimented digitally with gradients, textures, and 3D-style renders. But the more we tested, the clearer it became: the emblem wins when the system stays clean.
The simplest designs performed best because they were readable instantly, and they felt more premium.
Premium, with teeth.
Mavero wasn’t built to blend in. It was built to be recognized from six feet away, remembered after one glance, and trusted like it’s been around for decades. That’s the difference between a nice logo and a brand system engineered to win.
We didn’t decorate a tub. We built an identity that scales, expands, and stays disciplined no matter how many flavors hit the lineup.
Mavero is gelato with a backbone.
MIKEADV is how it got one.
